Webmaster note: For those of you who follow us on Facebook, we have been teasing about what “Jack says” over the past few days. Today we can stop teasing and let you know what Jack says about changes at Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply.

All who know me know understand that I do not accept change well. If I had my way, the store would never change for the seasons and whenever our visitors come in, everything would be exactly where and how it was the last time they were here. I mean, how frustrating is it to go to a grocery store and go to that familiar shelf and have things moved? It’s enough to make one want to starve to death.

Earlier this year, we decided to move the shoes back downstairs where they were when we first opened the store. Of course, that made me happy because we were changing back and I can accept that. That move was so well received by staff and customers that I started wondering what other blunders I have made in the merchandising the store. Our customers remark how nice the store looks, so do I need to change? But then, moving the shoes seemed to be good. Maybe we should look at other changes.

I was introduced to Colleen and Tracy from Double Vision, who put together a plan as to how to make our store even more shoppable and attractive. Me being so easy going about change, I said I would let them do what they need to do and I would just stay away while they did their magic.

Finally, it is over and I can come into the store and look at the results and enjoy the fruits of their labor. The first thing you notice is that we took down the canoe rack in front of the store so you can see in our window. The clothing area has been changed around to make it easier to find the style and sizes that you need. The aisles have been widened to make things more accessible. Paddles sports have more things on shelves so as to better display smaller items. The boot and shoe department has been completely redone.

But most importantly, they are finished and I have been assured there will be NO MORE CHANGES!!!!! Until next time? Wintertime? Maybe I should just go on an extended vacation.
