Webmaster note: Chris caught this beauty on Tuesday and then submitted the blog. Since he is also an accomplished chef, you might be expecting a recipe for Poached Trout or or Grilled Trout or Blackened Trout or Trout Almondine. But no, Chris has an altogether different recipe for us today.

This is a native brook trout. The picture does it no justice. It was a great day to be on the river–just enough wind to keep the bugs down; sunny for the most part; and the Brook Trout were chasing nymph patterns. The hot one today was my peacock Super X nymph and the recipe is today’s blog.

Peacock Super X Nymph

Hook: mustard 9671 #10
Thead: dark green 6/0
Bead: 1/8″ copper
Rib: small chartreuse ultra wire
Tail: olive pheasant rump
Body: coarse peacock dub
(I use Wee Folk dub)
Thorax: peacock SLF Prism dub
Legs: variegated dark green/black
sparkle silly legs

Method: Place bead on hook. Tie in rump fibers for the tail, then your rib wire, Dub on the body about 2/3s of the hook. Wrap your wire (I shoot for 5-7 wraps). Add your legs and dub your thorax so your legs form an X.
