What a wonderful day. What a wonderland to live in. I spent a little time at the store this fine Sunday morning and decided it was time to get out and enjoy the area. I drove home to get my two best friends and off we went.
My older friend wasn’t quite sure he wanted to go hiking, even though we were going to the Superior HIKING Trail, so I figured today it was the Superior WALKING Trail. We have had some great times, but I am preparing myself for his departure from this life. That is the cycle of life.
My younger friend? He is always up for an adventure, so he was no problem.
Walking on a day like this can be quite philosophical. Last night we had frost warnings after a day and a half of rain and clouds. But Lake Superior is moving up in water level quite substantially. I hear the High Falls of the Pigeon River in Grand Portage are spectacular, so the dryness must be leaving us at last.

My younger friend thinks I need to get out on the
Superior Hiking Trail more often. I think he’s right.
It got me pondering, first about the drought of the last few years. Is this like the Dust Bowl of the 30’s and are we coming out of that? Are the storms down south part of the breaking of the dry weather pattern or is this how the weather is going to be from now on? And what about the wolf hunt controversy? With all the wolf scat laden with deer hair that I saw, I am not so sure there is a shortage of wolves. Like I said, a beautiful day for philosophy.
And that brings me back to my friends. The nice thing about walking with them is they agree with all my theories and arguments. No politics in their life. I enjoy their company and they appear to enjoy mine.
I really need to take these walks more often.
